‘Boss’ of Apple City brings fun, upbeat album with
‘Big Worm of Apple City’
HOUSTON, TX – If you know nothing else about C. Wells, he hopes you remember one thing: he is first and foremost a community and business leader. And how he leads, more often than not, is through inspiring others through his music.
In 2011, C. Wells and his right hand man founded Five Pointer Production, an independent music label that aims to help young African Americans in Houston who have dreams of making it big in the music industry. C. Wells said his work with the company has helped establish a solid reputation throughout the city, and it’s one that he’s very proud of.
“I’m an all-around, 100 percent true boss and street legend who did this shit on his own terms,” he said. “I had to go to the military at age 17 and I came back at 21 and took over the scene. Making incredible music is just a plus. For years I have been consistently releasing records and holding it down for my culture.”
On March 9, C. Wells will be releasing his most recent project, a 19-song album called “Big Worm of Apple City.” He calls the project a “once-in- a-lifetime experience of riding around town with C. Wells.” The sound and style is different from song-to- song, but the overall vibe is a peek into the day-to- day life of a fun-loving individual.
“It’s upbeat,” C. Wells said. “It’s party. It’s fun. It’s dance. It’s singing. It’s all of that. It’s just a fun album with good lyrical content. I really focused on the feelings and experiences for the people. Everybody out here already knows me and knows what I do, so they’ll know that this theme fits what I am out here. It fits the idea of me being a boss. I’m a community leader and a business leader, and what’s what I’m known for around here.”
The first single from the album is a song called “Hands of a Dealer.” It’s a club song that C. Wells said everybody will love to dance to. The song is about a person trying to make music and trying to focus, but he gets preoccupied by different things in his life. He said the song is one that anyone can relate to because we all get distracted by different things in life and problems or situations that come along.
“It’s about trying to stay focused on one path,” he said. “It’s about learning how to juggle problems while staying consistent. But more than that it’s all about making sure you can dance and move. We forget that in a lot of music today, but that’s really what good music is about. You can have a message and good content, but what good is that if there’s no feeling in the music?”
