Danielle Denice uses soulful voice to uplift others through music
ATLANTA, GA – Life is too short to have bad hair.
This is not only the mantra that hair-stylist Danielle Denice has lived by for many years, it’s also a metaphor for who she is as a person and what she brings to the world. For many years she’s been known as a person who wears her heart on her sleeve, and as such she’s been a confidant to many others over the years. She cares – deeply – and she’s always doing what she can to take care of other people and encourage them. And though she’s always loved music and been a singer, it hasn’t been until recently that she realized she can live out that part of her character as a professional singer and songwriter. And so, in pursuit of a dream to be a professional musician, she’s ready to launch a new career at age 41 with the release of her new single “Moving On.”
“It’s a song that basically tells my story of moving on from a broken relationship,” Danielle said. “My husband left and I was devastated. I didn’t know how to handle it. I had to move on, but I didn’t fully realize this until I had the opportunity to take a trip to Africa with a friend for her birthday. When I got back I was ready, and I got in touch with a producer friend of mine named EJ Porter whose brother, Henry, wrote the lyrics based on my story. We went straight to work, and creating that song has been part of my healing process. What I didn’t expect was out of that devastation was birthed a new career in music. By moving forward I found new things for my life, and so I want to use this song to help encourage anyone in a situation where they feel like they can’t move forward or they’re stuck.”
Music has always been a part of Danielle’s life. She began singing at age 3 and as her voice matured in her teenage years the rich, deep, soulful sound was distinct among her peers. She quickly became compared to artists such as Lalah Hathaway or India Arie. But instead of pursuing a career in music, Danielle enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for years as an Army photographer. During that time she traveled the world and was able to sing for soldiers during their deployment. Upon her honorable discharge from the military, she returned to her home-town of Atlanta, Georgia, where she developed a career as a successful cosmetologist and entrepreneur. But she never lost her love for music or singing.
Today she uses that deep, sultry, soulful voice to continue to live out the lifestyle she has for all these years in her cosmetology shop – as an encourager.
“Even in my times of desperation and being down, I like to encourage and uplift people,” she said. “I want who I am as a person to bleed over to my music and into the lyrics. That’s very important to me. If the lyrics are there, the people can feel it. It becomes a connection with the people. And I just want to help people with my music. I believe I have a God-given talent, and I want to use that to help others. So my music is inspirational without having to put a label on it.” “Moving On” is currently available for download on all digital distribution sites. Danielle is also working on another single called “Hold On,” which she plans to release sometime this winter.
