Fashion The Rapper is a new artist who brings the total package
SAN DIEGO, CA – Fashion The Rapper is one of those rare talents who discovered a natural talent at an early age. The Atlanta rapper can point specifically to sixth grade when he and some friends would write lyrics in class so that they could participate in rap battles in the cafeteria at lunch. Fashion became one of the standout rappers of the school. He also would rap after school for friends at the local Boys & Girls Club. One day, the director of the Boys & Girls Club took the children to a live viewing of the Monique Show. And it was at this show that Fashion had a flash of inspiration.
“Before the show she asked if there were any rappers in the audience,” he recalls. “Everybody with the Boys & Girls Club knew I could rap so I immediately got nervous as hell because I knew they were gonna point to me. And they did, and I went on stage in front of all those people. My heart was beating like crazy. They brought someone else up and he rapped and the crowd was really feeling him, which made me even more nervous. Then I went and the reaction was crazy. I’d never felt anything else like it. It felt so good. And I knew immediately that I wanted to do
that for the rest of my life.”
Today, Fashion The Rapper is one of the hottest up-and- coming Atlanta hip-hop artists on the West Coast. Originally from Atlanta, Fashion moved to California more than a year ago to pursue a full-time music career. Since then, he’s been working on developing new material, and midway through last year he released the single “What’s Yo Name” with fellow Bay Area artist Too $hort.
Later that year, he followed up the success of that single with his first big release – a six-song EP called, appropriately, “Fashion The Rapper … EP.” It’s a project that he said explores his journey from the streets of South Atlanta to the success he one day hopes to find through the music industry.
“I want to inspire people with my music,” he said. “I’m trying to get out of the struggle and put my people on top, and a lot of my music is about just encouraging others to live for themselves. Don’t pay attention to what others are doing or live above your means. Just worry about what you’re doing, not others. One day I want to be one of the greatest inspirational rappers of all time.”
Fashion knows that becoming that kind of musical icon takes a lot of hard work and a total package. That’s why he chose the name Fashion The Rapper – because it gives listeners a sense of the way his music is elevated and it nods to the total package he hopes to bring to his brand– the music, the image, the visuals and the fashion. In addition to being a musician – he was also a model, and he has long looked up to other artists with a strong fashion sense, such as Fabulous and French Montana.
“Fashion The Rapper … EP” is available now. He said he’s already hard at work on a mixtape that will drop this Spring and a second EP produced by Kato on the Track there after. Check out his latest music video “I Might Die Today “ featuring Jarren Benton.
